Tekko are a part of the traditional Okinawan martial arts practice, and are traditionally made from metal or wood, however I have also made available a Tekko made from a high grade birch Plywood.
Making a kobudo weapons of this shape in wood provides an item that is very light weight and very comfortable to train with, however the hole made for the hand could potentially create an opportunity for weaknesses, therefore wooden tekko should not be used in any contact training.
Plywood has improved structural integrity and so overcomes the weaknesses in solid wood this whilst still keeping weight low. These Tekko are therefore better suited to light contact training.
